Genealogists, especially those of us who aren’t professional genealogists, always feel we either don’t have enough time or we didn’t wisely use the time. Jennifer Dondero must live in my house somewhere near my genealogy office because she has no issues down to a “T”. This book is all about getting us “occasional” genealogists to focus our time and energies in the right direction. WITHOUT telling us we have to do exactly like she does. So before I even write my review, I highly recommend this book.

Lost and Found by Suzanne Woods Fisher
I almost didn’t request this one. I couldn’t imagine how an Amish birder would work in a soft, clean Amish romance. You see there are these two Amish relative young people. One is Micah Weaver who is a birder — a for-real birder and there is Trudy Yoder who also loves birding with a passion. Now Trudy is sure Micah is showing sides of “really liking” her and then abruptly acts like he doesn’t.
What no one knows except Micah is Trudy’s sister Shelley who left the Amish and has called Micah (who used to be enamored with her) sounding scared and asking for help.
Then there is a loving bishop of their community who is dealing with a huge crisis — an Amish Beachy group has “invaded” Stoney Ridge and is buying everything in sight.
Three good people and an Old Order community — each with a serious issue.
Against the Wind by Amanda Cabot
Normally, I start with my own description but in this case, with such a rich story, there is no way I could write a succinct description. The first two paragraphs of the book’s description should tantalize you:
Doctor-in-training Louisa Vaughn has no intention of remaining in Sweetwater Crossing. She’s just there for a few days to help a friend. But she can’t abandon the injured man she finds at the side of the road. Until his broken leg heals, she’ll serve as the town’s doctor and midwife. She may not be fully qualified yet, but surely she’s better than nothing.
Josh Porter’s plans to win his grandfather’s challenge and fulfill his father’s final wish to gain full control of the family business hit a roadblock when he breaks his leg. But his enforced stay in Sweetwater Crossing gives him new ideas about the expansion of the company into new territory–ideas Louisa could help turn into reality.
Breaking New Ground by Amy Clipston
Korey was, well, just plain mad when his father married again and had no problem letting his kind stepmother know it. Now he has returned home after some growing up only to discover that life has moved on without him. Friends are married and everyone seems to think he should get married too.
Savannah Zook is the only maedel that he feels comfortable with. She isn’t interested in acquiring a husband; her #1 priority is protecting her bullied brother. But both are feeling the pressure — MARRIAGE. So they come up with a plan — pretend to date each other. Emphasis on pretend. So how does their plan work out?
Thanksgiving Blessing by Marta Perry
Almost all of the story takes place before Thanksgiving with the story ending as the main characters feeling their Thanksgiving is especially blessed, thus the title.
She is a young widow with two precocious twins who are cute, and smart and the only time you don’t have to watch them is when they are asleep. She is determined to make the orchard inherited from her grandfather support them. He has just moved to the neighborhood having inherited his uncle’s farm. The community is watching him very carefully — his uncle was a drunk so…
Her name is Becca King and he is Nathan Mueller.
Tracked Through the Woods by Laura Scott
“Tracked Through the Woods” is a Christian mystery-thriller about Abby Miller, a woman who has been on the run from the Chicago mob since childhood. Alongside her estranged father, living under a pseudonym among the Amish community, they aim to evade mob executioners intending to kill them. As an adult, Abby teams up with FBI agent Wyatt Kane in their pursuit of safety. The reviewer criticizes the overemphasis on Christian elements and questionable plot elements, such as Wyatt revealing his FBI credentials despite knowing his boss is corrupt. The book is awarded 3.5 stars.
