Books that were a great read, a wonderful read. A book I would enjoy reading again.
Courting an Amish Bishop by Mindy Steele
In “Courting an Amish Bishop,” part of “The Heart of the Amish” series, two unlikely characters find themselves intertwined. Simon Graber, a young widowed bishop, and Stella Schmucker, a healer, are brought together by the illness afflicting Simon’s son and his community. Despite their initial single-minded focus on their work and their apparent disinterest in complicating their lives with romantic relationships, they find themselves drawn to each other amidst the crisis. This book, received as a digital review copy, garners high praise for blending serious themes with the lighter, evolving romance between Stella and Simon. The reviewer recommends it with a five-star rating and notes it can be read as a standalone.
The Deerfield Massacre by James L Swanson
The full title is “The Deerfield Massacre: A Surprise Attack, a Forced March, and the Fight for Survival in Early America”. The title on the NetGalley site immediately grabbed my attention. I had done a little research about an ancestor whom I had yet to investigate. There is always the possibility in genealogy research that…
The Burning by Linda Castillo
The author/publisher description is, well, perfect. It discloses just the right amount of information without giving away the plot. And those of us who love the Kate Burkholder series know that Katie will go through some rough times, that she will get the perpetrator or perpetrators in the end, and that the murder will not be an ordinary one. And yep! I’m a Kate Burkholder series fan. BTW, I have to remind myself it’s the Kate Burkholder, not the Katie, series.
This was a page-turner for me. Click “Read more” to find out why.
Undercover Colorado Conspiracy by Jodie Bailey
The title tells the potential reader so much. It’s a conspiracy. It takes place in Colorado. And … whoever is investigating is undercover. The man and woman undercover are posing as a military man and his wife. They are, in fact, Army Military Investigators. This is not their first mission together. They are very good at what they do. Is this adoption agency legit or crooked as a dog’s hind leg which is what is suspected? And has their undercover which took months to set up already been blown? Someone or is it more than one person wants them dead?
Tracing Your Marginalised Ancestors by Janet Few
Definition of marginalised: According to the Oxford Dictionary, an adjective meaning “(of a person, group, or concept) treated as insignificant or peripheral.” NOTE: the spelling in the United States is marginalized.
In this book, marginalized (I am a USA reviewer.) may be, for example, low society, alcoholism, witchcraft, prostitution, ethnicity, criminal (remember that many so-called crimes of yesteryear are not considered so today), discrimination — let a wealthy man lose his fortune in yesteryear and even today. He’ll soon know what marginalization is about.
A key fact concerning this book is it is based in Great Britain. References are made to the “colonies” and the United States, but the book is for those researching the British Isles.
