Serenity has a secret. She is almost a recluse except for owning The Pink Petal Flower Shop. When not there, she is at home—alone, with her doors locked. She lives with the knowledge that she can never marry and never have even one sweet bobbli.
But recently something has been happening on her property. Could it be trespassers? Or is it someone with more sinister motives? A neighbor has been showing up doing such chores as chopping wood. Or repairing something. She stays hidden. But one day, she is attacked and this same kind neighbor saves her from further harm.
The neighbor, Stephen Lantz, also carries a private burden. And somehow, these two hurting people grow to be friends.

The year is 1947 and a young woman 22 years old is in a hospital because her father put her there. Supposedly she tried to kill herself. And the keyword in that sentence is … supposedly. No other patients have a private room. Why did she? She does not remember if what she has been told is true. Her name? Eliza.
The story moves to “present day” with a new team medic assigned to SWAT. Not exactly new, having been on the team for six months but when your team doesn’t accept you, you feel “new”. … Her name? Kenzie.

Ever pick up a book and everything fades but the words on the page and the scenes flow one to another? Anytime I am granted the opportunity to review one of her Amish mysteries, I’m the gal jumping up and down and yelling, “Me! Me! Me!” She has fast become one of my favorite Amish mystery authors.
What a story! How Dana Lynn comes up with unique mystery plots one after the other — good mystery plots. This one — 12 words start the description and I was hooked. “A killer in pursuit…and a little boy’s life is at stake.”
The story centers around two people and one very special dog. The people — Genevieve Austin and former state police partner, Scott Simpson. The dog — Benjie, a German shepherd.
Gen has been sent to the Pennsylvania K9 Training Center to get an attitude adjustment. But she knows *exactly* what her problem is. If a certain someone would just let her be and stop trying to wrap her in cotton, she could be the Pennsylvania State Tropper she knows she can be.
Little does she know that her former partner, now a sergeant is in charge of the K9 Training Center. They were not just partners. They were good friends if not best friends. And then to protect his job, he stopped. Today it’s called ghosting which means he ceased all communication with her. Gen understands the job part. But it hurt, hurt a lot. And now she has to REPORT to him who will REPORT to the Commissioner and if she strikes out here — she no longer has a job.
A captivating story from the beginning pages — I had a hard time putting it down. Riveting might be a good word. Her friend, Gemma, has disappeared which is not like her. Gemma would know that Amy not knowing would stress her out and Amy’s doctor does *not* want her stressed at this point in her pregnancy. Amy opened Gemma’s bookshop as usual but Gemma’s absence caused nothing but worry. And then the lights go out …
